Fun Activities for Every Age at a Big Family Reunion
Dec 11th 2019
A family reunion is a great way to gather all members even as it is growing and changing. There's nothing better than getting together with relatives to hear family stories. Whether it’s a picnic in the park, a beach-side barbecue, a state park visit, or a gathering in someone's home, planning for a successful and fun family reunion doesn't have to be time consuming. Make this family reunion one to remember with a few games. Not only are they fun for all ages, but they're a great way to gain lots of laughter and lasting memories!
Family Secrets
Sometimes, the simplest games turn out to be the most fascinating, especially at a family reunion. This interview game is a great way to get people talking and sharing their lives. Everyone who wants to play writes his or her name on a slip of paper and deposits in a hat. The slips are jumbled and each player pulls a name from the hat, keeping that name a secret.
Earlier in the day, each person seeks out the person whose name he or she drew and asks that person to share a little-known fact about their life. Later that day, everyone shares details or secrets they learned. Everyone else in the group writes the name of the person they think each secret is about, without saying so out loud. At the end, everyone reveals who they interviewed. The winner is the person who matched the most secrets to the correct people!
Plan a Food Bar
Showing off everyone's culinary creativity at the family reunion with a potluck is always a delicious choice, but why not change things up a bit? Instead of having family members bring a bunch of random dishes, plan a themed food bar! For example, try to set up a customize-a-hotdog bar. Provide the standard condiments but have each family member to bring out-of-the-ordinary fixings such as buffalo chicken dip, bacon chili or salsa. This could even turn this into a contest, whoever creates the most unique hotdog wins a prize!
Play a Family Scavenger Hunt
Fun for all ages, a family scavenger hunt is a good way to get the kids involved, it ensures plenty of interaction between different generations. Create a form with family-related questions such as: What was great-grandfather Powell’s first name? Which aunt had twins? Is there someone born in the same state as you? Set a deadline, and then gather the family together to judge the results!
Set up a Photo Booth
Want an easy way to capture new memories without hiring a photographer? Set up a makeshift photo booth! Find an area at the family reunion venue to hang up a patterned cloth as a background, then set up a tripod and camera with automatic-capture time settings. Ask guests to take a few pictures with family members they don't get to see often. Be sure to make the camera accessible to older relatives. After the family reunion, upload the pictures on Facebook!
After a fun and tiring day at a family reunion, it's time to prepare warm and cozy drinks and a couple of treats to share with family members. One traditional treat that's a must-try is Denmark’s well-loved traditional butter cookies. The irresistibly buttery and delicious taste come from high-quality butter and other finest ingredients baked to crisp and rich perfection, making it a perfect companion for quality time with the family.
The most important thing is that a family reunion gives everyone a chance to reconnect and experience the powerful pull of family. Spending time together, telling stories, sharing pictures, laughing at each other’s jokes and having fun will create strong bonds and remind us what family really means.
