Copenhagen operates like an efficient machine with its public transportation, wide bicycle lanes, well-organized social systems, and expansive network of walkways. It makes Copenhagen a convenient destination for all types of travelers, from large groups to solo explorers.

1. Tivoli Gardens

The first instagrammable place in Copenhagen is Tivoli Garden. It is a midtown amusement park that is famous for its vibrant light displays in Copenhagen. At first, Tivoli was considered on the outskirts of town when it was first constructed, but today it lies in central Copenhagen, directly adjacent to Copenhagen Central Station.

Tivoli Garden is most alive at night when the lights illuminate restaurants and markets, the rides, and with a brand new indoor food court, Tivoli Garden now offers more dining options than ever before. So even though there will always be considerable crowds and long lines there, it's worth it when we can enjoy the lights while waiting.

2. Nyhavn

For the second instagrammable place in Copenhagen, Nyhavn is an absolute must-see! Nyhavn is a port where ships continue to dock today, with a backdrop of colorful houses. The docking area is lined with shops, cozy cafés, and information centers. Don’t forget to check out Hans Christian Andersen’s dwelling at No. 20 and the oldest Nyhavn building at No. 9, back to 1681. With a wide spectrum of colors and a tangled skyline of nautical masts, Nyhavn is certainly a favorite Copenhagen tableau.

3. Amalienborg

Amalienborg is Denmark’s royal palace and the residence of the Danish royals, who still reside inside the palace. The Royal Guard secures Amalienborg, and we can see the ritual changing of the guard at noon each day. First, visit the Amalienborg Museum to learn about the history of the monarchy and Denmark’s most recent royals, then head over to Frederiks Kirke to see the stunning dome in the background. Amalienborg is beautiful, but the church dome makes the view truly spectacular as one of the most instagrammable places in Copenhagen.

4. The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue)

The bronze sculpture called The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue) is, despite its modest size, one of Copenhagen’s biggest tourist attractions and presumably also one of the most instagrammable places in Copenhagen.

Tourists usually take pictures with the famous mermaid sitting on her granite rock at Langelinie Kaj at the entrance to the Port of Copenhagen. This little mermaid sculpture was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s famous fairy tale of the same name.

5. Magstræde

One of Copenhagen’s most instagrammable places has to be Magstræde. It’s a beautiful small street with colorful houses, and some of it has some of the oldest residential buildings in Copenhagen. The street is located in the middle of the Inner City, a few steps from Christiansborg and Gammel Strand. Here, tourists can walk along the narrow paved roads and take pictures of the lucky houses that survived many fires that ravaged the city throughout history.
